Behaviour Genetics Association Annual Meeting (BGA) 2026

CEDaR participated in the Behaviour Genetics Association (BGA) Annual Meeting 2026, where Nadia Micali presented a symposium on the genomic underpinnings of the overlap between eating disorders and other psychiatric disorders.

The symposium brought together researchers including Katherine Schaumberg, Stefana Aicoboaie, Emerie Sheridan, Baiyu Qi, and James Li to present new findings on the shared genetic architecture of eating disorders and psychopathology.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge with researchers across the fields of mental health, behaviour, and genetics, and to strengthen international collaborations in psychiatric and genetic research.

 International Conference on Eating Disorders (ICED) 2026

CEDaR participated in the International Conference on Eating Disorders (ICED) 2026, held in The Hague, the Netherlands. This year's conference theme, Connecting Cultures in Eating Disorder Research and Practice, brought together researchers and clinicians from around the world to share the latest advances in eating disorder research and treatment.

CEDaR was represented by Nadia Micali, Sofie Graakjær Trige, and Signe Marie Hugger. Nadia Micali gave a presentation on the genetics of binge eating in the symposium Translational Advances in Understanding Binge Eating Behaviors and contributed to a symposium on the physiology and co-occurrence of cannabis use in Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

Signe Marie Hugger presented two posters: Designing and Adapting a Digital Guided Self-Help Program for Binge Eating Disorder (HALO Trial) and Predictors of Eating Disorder Treatment Satisfaction and Patient Perspectives: A Mixed-Methods Study.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity to present CEDaR's research, engage with international collaborators, and gain new insights into developments in eating disorder research and clinical practice.

Research Seminar in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

CEDaR participated in the Research Seminar in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry hosted by Psykiatrien Region Sjælland.​ The seminar brought together researchers and clinicians for a full day of new insights, interdisciplinary dialogue, and innovative perspectives on youth mental health.

CEDaR was represented by Martin Winther Andreasen and Luna Thule Viggers, who presented a poster on our upcoming study ARCH. The study aims to improve understanding of the characteristics of Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) in children and adolescents. It was a valuable opportunity to share our work and learn from others committed to improving mental health services for children and young people.​

34th Novo Nordisk Foundation Science Cluster conference: “Prevention of Childhood Obesity: Body, Brain & Society”

Dr Elena Jansen attended the 34th Novo Nordisk Foundation Science Cluster conference “Prevention of Childhood Obesity: Body, Brain & Society”, where she presented work conducted as part of the eprObes consortium. The presentation focused on prospective relationships between early emotional and behavioural risk factors and how these relate to BMI and binge eating in adolescence.

The conference brought together researchers from Denmark and abroad working within childhood obesity prevention and provided an opportunity to connect with both new and longstanding collaborators.​

European Workshop on Preventing Obesity from Childhood - Córdoba

Dr Elena Jansen represented CEDaR at the bi-annual eprObes meeting in Córdoba, Spain, last week and shared the latest findings from research conducted at CEDaR.

As part of Obesity Awareness Week, the eprObes consortium hosted the European Hybrid Workshop “Preventing obesity from childhood: tools and strategies” at the Rectorate of the University of Córdoba. The workshop brought together 125 participants attending both in person and online from 10 different countries. Elena presented findings from longitudinal studies showing that eating behaviours measured in childhood can track into both eating and weight-related problems in adolescence.​

Society for Psychotherapy Research 56th Annual International Meeting 2025 Kraków​

Assistant Professor Anne Bryde and PhD student Mathilde Hasselby-Andersen represented CEDaR at the World Conference for the Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR 2025) in Krakow this month. 

Anne participated in a panel on group therapy process and outcome, with her presentation “Helpful and Hindering Processes in Systemic-Narrative Group Therapy for Binge Eating Disorder”, exploring what supports and obstructs therapeutic change. Mathilde presented her poster “Investigating the Process of Drop-out in Psychotherapy for Binge Eating Disorder”, shedding light on the complex experiences of patients who discontinue treatment. We're proud to see important qualitative research contribute to international discussions on psychotherapy and eating disorders.​

​32nd European Congress on Obesity 2025 (ECO2025)
This week CEDaR was at ECO2025,​ organised by the European Association for the Study of Obesity. Professor Nadia Micali presented work from CEDaR on the combined effect of BMI and ED genomic risk and their overlap in an eprObes symposium. Senior researcher Elena Jansen shared her eprObes work on emotional and behavioural risk for obesity in population-based studies.

​London Eating Disorders Conference 2025

At this year's London Eating Disorders Conference, CEDaR's researchers presented their latest findings through workshops, short paper presentations and posters: 

PostDoc Helena Davies and Professor Nadia Micali from CEDaR and Dr. Moritz Herle from Kings College London, hosted a workshop titled "Bringing biology to the clinic: how can we explain genetics to our patients with eating disorders". Focused on translating complex genetic information into practical, patient-centered communication, bridging the gap between biological research and clinical practice.

Assistant Professor Anne Bryde Christensen presented our HALO pilot study, titled "Guided self-help CBT versus systemic narrative group therapy for binge eating disorder: a pilot study for a randomized controlled trial".

PhD Student Stefana Darvariu presented for the very first time at an international conference the paper titled "Exploring gut metabolic profiles before and after fecal microbiota transplant in Anorexia Nervosa".

PhD student Amalie Schousboue gave a short paper presentation titled "Lived experience perspectives on familial high-risk studies for eating disorders". Amalie's work emphasizes the importance of integrating lived experiences when studying familial risk factors for eating disorders.

PhD student Stefana Aicoboaie presented her poster on "Does familial high risk for eating disorders result in increased psychopathology?", shedding light on the potential mental health impacts of genetic predisposition.

PhD student Lea Steinstad presented a poster titled "From Mother to Daughter: Cognitive Flexibility as a Potential Trait Marker for Eating Disorders". This study explores the role of cognitive flexibility in the intergenerational transmission of eating disorder risk.

Senior Researcher Mie Sedoc Jørgensen presented the BLOOM study with her poster titled "Protective and Risk Factors for Eating Disorders: a Familial High-Risk Study", aiming to identify factors that may increase or decrease the risk of developing eating Disorders.

PhD student Dorthe Waage presented her poster on the development of a serious game to support caregivers, titled "Development of an Add-On Intervention for Caregivers of Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa: A Serious Game to Enhance Skills and Reduce Burden". Dorthe's presentation won the Rachel Bryant-Waugh Award for Excellence in Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders, an award which recognises excellent clinical research or practice.

This March Professor Nadia Micali, senior researcher Elena Jansen and colleagues from the Capital Region of Denmark attended an eprObes meeting in Brussels, which included attending the European Workshop for Prevention of Obesity, in recognition of World Obesity Day.

​LEAP Study Awarded Grant to Uncover the Journey and Impact of Binge Eating and Binge Eating Disorder in Youth​

We extend our congratulations to Professor Nadia Micali and the team behind the Longitudinal course and impact of binge eating and binge eating disorder (the LEAP study) for securing a grant from Region Hovedstadens Psykiatrisk forskningspulje 2024. This study aims to delve into the trajectory of binge eating (BE) and binge eating disorder (BED) during adolescence and young adulthood. It will investigate their influence on metabolic parameters, weight, body composition, quality of life, and healthcare utilization. By utilizing data from two substantial population-based birth cohorts, ALSPAC in the UK and CCC2000 in Denmark, the study seeks to contribute to the early identification and detection of BE/BED, ultimately aiming to prevent negative consequences and address the needs of affected individuals.​

The third seminar in our CEDaR Seminar series ​- Early Intervention for Eating Disorders: Rationale, Models, and Evidence 

We were privileged to host Professor Ulrike Schmidt at our third CEDaR Seminar. Professor Schmidt conducted a presentation on early intervention in eating disorders, which proved to be enlightening for everyone in the audience. Prof. Schmidt provided valuable insights into The First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders (FREED), an innovative treatment approach designed to assist young individuals with eating disorders at the earliest stages, thereby enhancing the prospects of achieving a complete recovery.​

PhD seminar, Happy to share: convey your research with confidence 

​​In a recent seminar, four colleagues engaged in activities to enhance their public speaking skills. The seminar fostered connections as our colleagues had the opportunity to interact with fellow Ph.D. students at Region H Psychiatry. This event provided a platform for PhD students to hone their abilities and showcase their ongoing research endeavors. Two of our colleagues took center stage, delivering presentations on their ongoing research and receiving feedback from the audience.

The second seminar in our CEDaR Seminar series ​- Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy for Eating Disorders 

At CEDaR's second seminar, we had the pleasure to have Camilla Lindvall Dahlgren,​ Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology, Institute of Psychology, Oslo New University College (ONH). Her presentation offered valuable insights into current research on eating disorders and their treatment, particularly in the context of psychedelic drugs. Camilla provided an overview of recent studies and findings related to the treatment of various eating disorders, shared details about her lab's ongoing research initiatives, and engaged in a thoughtful discussion about ketamine-assisted psychotherapy's potential benefits and drawbacks, shedding light on its implications for the field.​

​World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics ​2023

Nadia Micali CEDaR lead and Stefana Aicoboaie PhD student recently participated in the World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics (WCPG) held in Montreal last week. This year's WCPG, centered around the theme "Putting People First in Psychiatric Genetics".

During the conference, Stefana presented her poster, which explored the connection between polygenic risk scores and transdiagnostic vulnerability traits in a population-based youth sample. 

Nadia organized and co-chaired a symposium on eating disorders: 'Putting the people puzzle together: mapping real-life cross-disorder and disorder-specific phenotypes and genomics in eating disorders' focusing on new and innovative studies investigating how genomics shape the differences among ED diagnoses, the intersection between EDs and other psychiatric disorders, and how genetic risk for AN influences clinical phenotypes.

Seminar Series Explores Cognitive Remediation Therapy's Impact on Eating Disorders​

The inaugural seminar of the CEDaR Seminar Series delved into the transformative potential of Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) for Anorexia Nervosa (AN), featuring Dr. Gry Kjærsdam Telléus as the keynote speaker. CRT's ability to enhance cognitive skills and tackle cognitive inflexibility in AN was spotlighted, offering new hope for those on the path to recovery.
