About the Competence Centre for Transcultural Psychiatry (CTP)

The Competence Centre for Transcultural Psychiatry (colloquially called CTP) is part of the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark. We are located at the Mental Health Centre Ballerup.

Psychiatry is a health professional specialty that includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and rehabilitation of patients with psychotic and non-psychotic disorders as well as mental disorders combined with substance abuse in adults. This speciality area also covers research, development, and education.

At CTP, we focus on diagnostics, treatment, education, and research. We cover

  1. diagnosis and assessment of complicated transcultural psychiatric patients, including complicated mental illness in ethnic minorities, and

  2. diagnosis and treatment of trauma-affected refugees.

Our dynamic interdisciplinary team of staff consists of doctors, psychologists, social workers, nurses, secretaries, and academic staff. The team is also very diverse with a wide range of ethnic backgrounds: Bosnian, Swedish, Argentine, Pakistani, Iraqi, Estonian, Egyptian, Iranian, Spanish, Sudanese, German and Hungarian. This tends to benefit us in encountering our equally diverse group of patients.

We also have a group of committed student workers and work with some of the region's most skilled interpreters with many years of experience in health professional interpretation.

CTP is, in relation to our modest size, a very research active place.
